Sustainability

Our Ecosystem Model for Sustainable Future

# 1 — Waste Valorization

Thanks to our unique waste management system, we complete the collagen cycle and save all valuable residues to the economy.

# 2 — Water Management

It is our priority to reduce water consumption in all processes and to evaluate all water that can be reused.

# 3 — Recycling

We decompose all plastic, paper, packaging, etc. wastes released in production and evaluate them for use in different areas.

# 4 Circular Economy

İskefe aims to “close the loop” with an economic system that reengages waste products into resources used for new products. Three principles guide this approach: firstly, design out waste and pollution; secondly, keep products and materials in use; and thirdly, regenerate natural systems.

# 5 Sustainable Sourcing

It is estimated that 7.3m tonnes of waste from the global food industry could go to landfills if the leather industry did not upcycle hides and skins into leather. İskefe uses only hides that are a by-product of the food industry and, through versatile manufacturing, turns them into leathers that can be used in a wide range of products, from gloves and footwear to apparel and upholstery. We make leather using raw material from cattle (bovine) and, where possible, source those raw materials from Turkey and peripheral countries. Sustainable sourcing makes for low leather manufacturing miles and helps reduce the overall carbon footprint of the finished leather.

# 6 Restricted Substances

As part of our ongoing commitment to responsible manufacturing, we work with chemical partners that take a strategic approach to reduce environmental impact and work with a stringent Manufacturing Restricted Substance List (MRSL) that identifies substances that are undesirable to work with, not just for the present but for the future too. İskefe has long been a leader in eliminating sensitive chemicals, such as Azo dyestuffs, and set the benchmark with its PFC (poly-fluorinated chemicals) free water-resistant treatment ahead of the fabric industry.
